Should I add my products to the Google shopping directory?
Well there are pros and cons involved in listing your products to Google's shopping directory. At the moment it is completely free to do so but come the Autumn you will be asked to pay. I'm not entirely sure yet how Google will ask for payment. By that I mean whether they will be adding a pay per click charge or a monthly charge.
Currently if you are a small business competing to sell your products amongst lots of larger businesses in my opinion your product may become overlooked. Particularly as larger businesses that have been trading for some time can afford to sell their products at a lower rate. Why would a customer click on your product if it is considerably more expensive but exactly the same?
Offering FREE postage is a good idea as you will get a separate listing under this option. Some customers will filter out any paid postage to make a small saving. Let's face it any saving is a bonus in the current climate.
If you are selling branded products then you will need to add a manufacturer and a bar code to each product which can be very time consuming, especially if you have thousands of products to list.
If however your product is unique to you then Google Shopping is well worth the time and effort. You won't have to worry about bar codes and such like.
