Link Building

Adding your site to relevant directories and blogs

Link building is a must, but do it carefully. You really do need to get your website listed with as many QUALITY directories or blogs as you can, while at the same time taking care not to add to anything irrelevant. If you are a UK based company I would advise that you only submit to .co.uk shopping sites complying with Google rules and regs. This takes time but be patient and keep going, it really will get results in the long run. Basically the more relevant quality links to your site out there, the greater your Google ranking will be but be mindful of the fact that you may be penalised should your website appear to have artificially boosted rankings. I realise this may be a little confusing so if you have any questions then feel free to ask and I will reply as soon as I can.

Don't simply trawl through the web adding to anything out there and try to stay away from reciprical linking programs, also try and avoid blanket submission software. Google will probably penalise you for this and you may even find your site has been dropped from their listings. It may seem like a quick and easy solution but it may harm you in the long run. It is a tricky thing to get right as in order to become more relevant you need more incoming links but it is becoming increasingly difficult with all of the new do's and don'ts Google are inflicting.

Stay away from anything that promises to 'boost your Google rankings' should you purchase a link from them.

Selecting a suitable category

Make sure you start by submitting to the correct category. For example if you sell ladies clothing you will need to select 'Shopping' then maybe 'clothing' with a sub category of 'Ladies apparel and accessories'. This is merely an example of category headings but most directories use a similar system. When you have gone into each relevant sub category you will click on 'Add my site'. Next simply fill in your details. Remember to make sure (if you are paying) that the payment section of the site is secure. You can do this by making sure that the address bar says https (s for secure).
