Website optimisation

So you've got your website, now begins the task of getting potential customers to find it

This is where the hard work begins.

First off you should make sure your website is fully optimised. This means (sorry if this is obvious) your site should be rich in textual content and contain relevant 'meta tags' as well of course as looking professional and being easy for the end user to navigate.

If your website isn't fully optimised before you start the submission process it will significantly reduce your chances of a good search ranking.

All you need to do is to speak to your web developer and get them to insert all the relevant tags. The way to do this is to research commonly used keyphrases within your industry and make a list of the things you would type in to the search box if you were a customer looking for the product yourself. Try to avoid industry speak and thing from a customers point of view.

Try not to concentrate too much on very broad terms. Try to maximise the potential for great results by being more specific.

What is a meta tag?

Meta tags refers to the keywords and phrases relevant to your business.

Your website should contain a 'Meta Description' and a 'Meta Title' as well as some commonly used keywords. The title is widely thought to be the most important meta tag of all. The closer the word or phrase to the beginning of that title the better.

Having a website with no marketing in place is simply like having a shop in the middle of nowhere that nobody is likely to see, unless they accidentally stumble across it, which is very unlikely and even if they do they probably aren't in the market for what you are selling anyway.
