Need a little help in understanding 'Keywords' and Phrases?
This may seem obvious to anyone that understands SEO but if you are new to all of this you may wonder what on earth I am talking about!
Put simply a 'keyword' is a word that relates to your product or business. For example if you sell types of coffee, keywords relevant to you would be 'coffee' 'ground coffee' 'coffee beans and so on.
Coffee as a word on it's own would not be likely to get results. It's simply too broad a term and I can pretty much guarantee that big business will be fetching all the first, second and third page rankings.
Look at narrowing the term to the type of coffee. For example 'Fresh full roast coffee beans'. You will get much better results by being specific and the majority of shoppers will use a more specific phrase. They generally know exactly what they are looking for.
Just because someone types 'coffee' into a search it doesn't always mean they are looking to buy it. Many people simply use the web as a research tool. Getting hundreds of visitors to your ecommerce site is one thing but if they are not shopping then they are surplus to requirements.
This is another good reason to keep phrases specific. A shopper will usually be looking for something in particular so will be more savvy than to simply type a one word query into the search box.

Try not to ram your site full of keywords. Not so it's obvious anyway! Get writing some content rich text and insert as many disguised phrases in as you can without the text becoming spammy and obvious.
